Bachelor Haus exists “to make every man King of his Castle.” Banking on the idea that most men would rather buy professionally curated sets of furniture (that are therefore guaranteed to look good) than browse through a store and cobble something together on their own, they sell entire collections of living room furniture (including couches, coffee tables, lamps, and even wall art) for a single all-inclusive price.
The concept is certainly an intriguing one, so Bachelor Haus, if you’re listening, we’d love to help you tighten up your website.
As is the case with most of the websites we’ve looked at in this series of evaluations, Bachelor Haus would see a lot of improvement in their search rankings if they added more descriptive keywords to their title tags. Beyond that, the logo on the homepage is taking up a lot of valuable real estate—they could benefit from placing a clearer call to action above the fold, which would require a smaller logo. And on the topic of calling attention to things, the fact that a percentage of sales will be donated to charity deserves to be featured more prominently.
We all agreed that the concept of the site is a good one (particularly that the price you see is the price you pay–that aligns well with the hassle-free, all-in-one thing that they have going on), but we did notice a few small details that are holding it back.
For example, the areas circled above are all slightly mis-centered or otherwise misaligned on the homepage. And while those things don’t affect the functionality of the site, they negatively impact its overall impression.
Moving on to the site’s content, we like all of the blog posts and articles that are clearly targeted toward bachelors (Cleaning 101, Kitchen Essentials, etc.), but they are lacking the photos and formatting that would make them more engaging. The product descriptions could also be more fleshed out, though the pictures of each set of furniture staged together are great.
Overall, Bachelor Haus has gotten a lot of things right—the concept, the photos, the content, all of the most substantial elements are there. With some SEO optimizations and web design tweaks, we think that they could take it to the next level.
